Mangaluru, July 26, 2023: Mangaluru International Airport unveiled a newly constructed barrack accommodation for the Airport Security Group (ASG) personnel of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Nandabettu in Kolambe village on July 26.

The inauguration ceremony was organized in response to a directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs, mandating the reinforcement of ASG personnel strength at the airport.

The state-of-the-art facility is now equipped to house and support 98 ASG personnel. Additionally, an existing barrack accommodation for ASG personnel is operational at Mura, located near the old airport in Bajpe.

Sethuraman Ponnien Selvan, Deputy Inspector-General (APSZ), HQ Chennai inaugurated the new facility along with the leadership team of the airport.

He lauded the airport management’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the central armed police force (CAPF) personnel. As per the Ministry’s directive, the airport’s ASG personnel strength has witnessed a significant increase, rising from the previous 254 personnel across ranks to a notable 403 personnel.

With the creation of 149 additional posts, the CAPF is set to enhance its capabilities in carrying out security operations, including the protection of vital industrial units and major airports. In tandem with the directive, the Ministry has also elevated the post of Chief Airport Security Officer (CASO) to the rank of a senior commandant, with Virendra Mohan Joshi assuming this newly upgraded position.

Joshi affirmed the CISF’s dedication to ensuring seamless passenger movement while upholding their primary responsibility of maintaining airport security.

He emphasized that the CISF personnel would uphold their reputation for courteous yet firm conduct in fulfilling their duties, adhering to the highest standards of ethics and integrity.

Joshi extended his appreciation to the airport management for their proactive approach in addressing the needs of the CISF. “The management’s proactive approach in meeting our requirements is commendable,” he remarked.
