 Collaborative Approach Needed to Tackle Drug Menace: Mullai Muhilan

Mangaluru, July 15, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan called upon teachers and parents to collaborate with the district administration in making the district drug-free.

He was speaking at the inauguration of a training workshop against drug menace held at the Eric Mathias Auditorium today.

The workshop was jointly organized by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department, District Mental Health Department, Police Department, and St. Aloysius College.

The Deputy Commissioner urged everyone to join hands and work collectively towards making Dakshina Kannada a drug-free district by August 15th. 

Drawing a parallel between drug use and a disease, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Mugilan emphasized the need to identify and treat drug addicts to facilitate their recovery. He assured that drug addicts would be provided with counseling, with a strong emphasis on maintaining the confidentiality of their personal lives.

Highlighting the workshop as part of an ongoing effort, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the continuous operations undertaken by officials to combat drug peddling in the district. He further emphasized the pivotal role played by students’ guides and teachers, as educational institutions have a significant influence on children’s lives. He urged teachers to remain vigilant and observe any changes in students’ behavior.

The primary objective of the program is to create a district free from drug addiction. The DC urged everyone to join hands and work collectively towards making Dakshina Kannada a drug-free district by August 15th. He called upon the citizens of the district to embrace their responsibility in achieving this important goal.

Probationary IAS officer Mukul Jain, Mangaluru City DCP B.P. Dinesh Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police Dharmappa N, St Aloysius College Principal Dr. Praveen Martis S.J and others were present.

Wenlock Hospital surgeon Dr. Sadashiv Shanbhag, Senior Psychiatrist Dr. Ravish Tunga and Dr Lidio Lobo  were on stage.

Wenlock Hospital’s psychiatrist Dr. Dr. Sunil Kumar, Dr Supritha were present.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer Kishore Kumar M welcomed the gathering. District Leprosy Eradication Officer Dr.Sudarshan delivered the vote of thanks. District Health Education Officer Jyothi K Ulepady compered the function.
