Kurma Rao inaugurates ‘Video on Wheels’
Udupi, March 6, 2022: Child marriage is a punishable offense and everyone, including students, parents, public and association should extend their complete cooperation in eradicating the menace completely from society, said Udupi DC Kurma Rao M.
He was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Video on Wheels,’ campaign against Child Marriage at Udupi today. The campaign is organized by District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, the Women and Child Welfare Department, the District Legal Services Authority, the Department of Publicity and Public Relations, and other departments.
“Child marriage will disturb the entire life of girls. They will have adverse effects on their physical and mental health. Deprived of education, they would be deprived of their various rights. Everyone should join hands with the government to protect children from such social evils,” he added.
“Teachers should make children aware of the ill effects of child marriage in schools. Parents should also be aware of the consequences of this. If a child marriage case is found, toll-free number 1098 should be contacted to protect the children,” he said.
Senior Civil Judge and Member Secretary, District Legal Service Authority Sharmila said the provisions of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act should be made publicly aware of the quantum of punishment and all possible cooperation would be provided by the District Legal Services Authority to make the district child marriage free.
