Fearing divine wrath accused confess to Koragajja
Mangaluru, April 01, 2021: While the police investigation did not lead to any substantial progress, it was the Divine wrath that made the two accused confessed before Koragajja (the Divine spirit) on Wednesday night.
Koragajja is one of the popular deities of Tulunadu, especially in the Dakshina Kannada district. People pray to him for the solution and also justice. The sentiment of devotees was hurt when condoms were seen in the Hundi of Koragajja at Emmekere in Mangaluru. A similar incident repeated in some other places too.
Barring religion and party lines, people condemned this act and wanted strict action against the accused. Police had strengthened the investigation but failed to make any major progress.
But the case was solved with Divine intervention.
The priest of Eemmekere Daivastana received a phone call from ‘somebody,’ who wanted to pay ‘Tappu Kanike,’ (paying fine or penalty to make amends for wrongdoing) to Koragajja and confess their crime. The priest suggested them to come during the ‘Nemotsava,’ (Nemaotsava is held to appease the Daivas. A particular person is possessed by the deity). on Wednesday night in the presence of ‘Patri.’
Two persons who identified themselves as Taufik and Abdul Rahim of Ambedkar Nagar, Porkodi confessed their presence when the condom was being disposed of in the Hundi.
Their friend Nawaz (32) had returned to Jokatte from Dubai about one and half years ago. He was involved in activities like black magic. While chatting with Taufik and Rahim he denied the supernatural powers of Koragajja and wanted to challenge it.
He took the two along with him. At the religious places, Nawaz dumped the condom and returned without being noticed by anybody.

Nobody came to know about the crime. But Nawaz developed a health problem suddenly. He started vomiting blood and also suffered from Diarrhea. It was then he realized his crime. He called Taufik and Rahim and stated that he was suffering because he had attracted the wrath of Koragajja.
Nawaz died about one and a half months ago. Meanwhile, thousands of devotees took a procession to the Koragajja Adi stana and prayed. Meanwhile, Taufik too saw bloodstains when he coughed. This left the two shattered. They had seen the death of their friend Nawaz and they were now scared about their future. To save themselves from the Divine wrath they decided to offer ‘Tappu Kanike,’ at the Daivastana.
“They had come to the Daivastana at Emmekere. After the rituals we took them into custody,” Commissioner Shashi Kumar told reporters.

While things like God, Spirits, and Supernatural powers have always been a topic of debate between the believers and the progressive thinkers, the belief of Divinity has certainly helped in solving this case. Devotees believe that Koragajja who is seen as a spirit delivering Justice has given his judgment.
