Srinivas College of Pharmacy holds anti-drug awareness programme

Mangaluru, July 2, 2026: Stressing the need for greater awareness to combat the menace of substance abuse, Ms. Anitha Nikkam, Police Sub-Inspector (PSI), Kankanady Town Police Station, urged students to stay away from illicit drugs and play an active role in building a drug-free society.
She was addressing an awareness programme organised by Srinivas College of Pharmacy, Mangaluru, to mark the International Day against Illicit Drug Trafficking on June 30.
In her address, Ms. Nikkam highlighted the growing incidence of illicit drug use among young people and explained its social, psychological, legal and health consequences. She advised students to make informed decisions, resist peer pressure and seek timely help whenever faced with substance abuse-related issues. She also interacted with students and addressed their queries, encouraging them to become ambassadors of drug prevention in their communities.

Mr. Narayan, Head Constable, also participated in the programme and interacted with the students, reinforcing the importance of awareness and community participation in tackling drug abuse.
Among those present were Dr. Kumar Prasad, Dr. Krishnananda Kamath, and Dr. Viresh K. Chandur, who appreciated the police department’s efforts in spreading awareness on drug abuse and urged students to uphold ethical values and adopt healthy, drug-free lifestyles.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members. The interactive session provided practical insights into the dangers of illicit drugs and underscored the importance of prevention through awareness, education and community support.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the chief guest, police officials, faculty members and students for contributing to the success of the awareness initiative.
