Mangaluru, July 1: The Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has declared a holiday for all anganwadi centres, schools and pre-university colleges (up to Class 12) across the district on Thursday, July 2, 2026 following the Red Alert issued for the district in view of continuing heavy rainfall.

The order, issued by Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Darshan comes in the wake of a weather forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), which has predicted the continuation of heavy rains across Dakshina Kannada.

The holiday applies to all anganwadi centres, government, aided and private primary and high schools, and pre-university colleges (up to Class 12) in the district.

As part of precautionary measures, the district administration has issued several public safety advisories. Parents have been urged to ensure that children do not venture near waterlogged low-lying areas, ponds, lakes, rivers or the seashore.

Fishermen have been strictly advised not to venture into the sea until weather conditions improve. Tourists and the general public have also been directed to avoid visiting riverbanks and beaches during the Red Alert period.

The Deputy Commissioner has directed all district- and taluk-level officers to remain at their headquarters and ensure uninterrupted disaster management operations. Officials have been instructed to respond promptly to public complaints and maintain continuous communication with the District Control Room.

All concerned departments have also been directed to open and keep taluk-level relief and care centres in a state of readiness to respond to any emergency arising out of the adverse weather conditions.

The district administration has appealed to the public to immediately report any rain-related emergencies or natural disaster incidents to the District Disaster Management Authority through the designated control room helpline.
