Mangaluru, July 7, 2026: The Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority has declared a holiday for all anganwadi centres, schools and pre-university colleges (up to Class 12) across the district on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 following the Red Alert issued for the district in view of the forecast of extremely heavy rainfall.

The order was issued by Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Darshan based on the latest weather forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), which has predicted the continuation of intense rainfall across Dakshina Kannada.

The holiday applies to all anganwadi centres, government, aided and private primary and high schools, and pre-university colleges (up to Class 12) in the district.

As a precautionary measure, parents have been advised to ensure that children do not venture near waterlogged low-lying areas, ponds, lakes, rivers or the seashore.

The district administration has directed fishermen not to venture into the sea until further notice due to rough sea conditions. Tourists and the general public have also been advised to avoid visiting riverbanks, beaches and other vulnerable locations during the Red Alert period.

District- and taluk-level officers have been instructed to remain at their headquarters and ensure round-the-clock disaster management preparedness. Officials have been directed to respond promptly to public grievances and maintain constant coordination with the District Control Room.

All concerned departments have been asked to keep taluk-level relief and care centres ready to provide immediate assistance in the event of flooding, landslides or other rain-related emergencies.

The district administration has appealed to residents to remain vigilant, follow official advisories and immediately report any rain-related emergencies or natural disaster incidents to the District Disaster Management Authority through the district control room.
