Karwar: Preparations Underway for 109th Birth Anniversary Celebration of Devaraj Urs
Karwar, August 13, 2024: Uttara Kannada district Deputy Commissioner K Laksmipriya has directed officials to make necessary arrangements for the 109th birth anniversary celebration of former Chief Minister D. Devaraj Urs, scheduled for August 20.
Presiding over the preparatory meeting held at the District Commissioner’s office on Monday, she emphasized the importance of commemorating the life and contributions of D. Devaraj Urs, a visionary leader who dedicated his life to the upliftment of the underprivileged and backward communities. She stressed that the celebration should not only honor his memory but also educate future generations about his principles and achievements, ensuring that his ideals remain deeply ingrained in public consciousness.
The DC instructed that the day’s events should include a procession featuring the portrait of D. Devaraj Urs, accompanied by various cultural groups, followed by a formal gathering. She urged the public to participate in large numbers to make the event a success.
Additionally, a special lecture on the life of D. Devaraj Urs will be organized during the event, and awards will be distributed to students from backward communities who have excelled in SSLC and PUC exams.
The meeting was attended by Sub-Divisional Officer Kanishk, Chief Accountant of Zilla Panchayat Anandasa Habib, Taluk Extension Officer for Backward Classes Welfare Department Manohar, and various officials and leaders from different organizations.
