Kasturba Hospital Hosts Training Program on Lab Services
Manipal, October 18, 2023: Kasturba Hospital Laboratory Services, in collaboration with BD India, launched a comprehensive 3-day training initiative titled ‘First Time Right-Get Samples Right, The First Time & Every Time.’
The program, which runs from October 17th to October 19th, targets phlebotomists, technicians (both in-house and external), and nurses.
The formal inauguration of this structured training program took place at Dr. T. M. A. Pai hall, KMC Manipal.
Dr. Krishnananda Prabhu, Associate Dean at KMC Manipal, highlighted a critical aspect of laboratory work, stating that 70% of errors occur during the initial stages, often due to a lack of practical knowledge among technicians. He emphasized the need for structured practical training to address this issue and commended Team BD for introducing the program ‘First Time Right-Get Samples Right, The First Time & Every Time.’
Dr. Shiran Shetty, Deputy Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, underscored the significance of hands-on training with cutting-edge technology and lauded BD India for taking this pioneering step.
The training program encompasses a wide array of elements, including an introduction to the latest technology, live demonstrations, instruction on best practices, and objective assessments following intervention, all geared towards enhancing specimen collection skills among nursing and lab staff.
Dr. Ravindra Maradi, Lab Director at Kasturba Hospital Laboratory Services (KHLS), welcomed the gathering and estimated that over 1000 staff members will benefit from this initiative.
Dr. Shwetha, Medical Affairs Manager at BD India, provided a comprehensive overview of the training program. Dr. Sushma Belurkar, Head of Clinical Lab; Dr. Suba Sooriya P, Head of Nursing Services; Jibu Thomas, Associate Director; Mohan Shetty, Manager; and Suchetha Nayak, Associate Manager, were present.
