Mescom says smart meters by 2025
Mangaluru, Feb 21, 2022: Mescom plans to complete the installation of Smart Electricity Meters in its operating area by 2025.
Mescom Managing Director Prashanth Kumar told this during the public hearing on tariff hike organized by Karnataka Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC) at Mangaluru today. The MD was replying to a query of a farmer at the meeting.
“This Smart Meter will work accurately. People should join hands with the government,” he said.
He said Mescom has reached 61.55 lakh people in 29 taluks of 4 districts.
“Under the Belaku project Power supply is provided to those who do not have electric lines. Substations have been started at Guttigar of Puttur division and Malpe of Udupi division. For the up-gradation and strengthening of power supply, KPTCL works have started at Tirthahalli, Udupi, and Ulavi,” the MD added.
Nazeer spoke on behalf of small industries and said that the increase in power tariff will adversely hit the sector. Ice plant owners requested the government to decrease the tariff.
