Former Mayor K Ashraf asks DC not to ease Lockdown
Mangaluru: Former Mayor K Ashraf has asked the district administration not to allow textile shops and fancy stores during Lockdown.
“To control COVID-19, the government has imposed Lockdown in the country. People from all communities have been abiding by it. But we have noticed that some people in our community are demanding opening up of textile and fancy stores on the occasion of Eid festival,” Ashraf, who is also the president of Dakshina Kannada Muslim Sanghatanegala Okkuta stated in the letter written to the Deputy Commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district.
“To control COVID-19, the government has imposed Lockdown in the country. People from all communities have been abiding by it. “If these shops are opened in the name of Eid, the number of people venturing out would increase not only in Mangaluru but entire Dakshina Kannada district. This would finally lead to a crisis and it would be difficult for the administration to control COVID. All the precautionary measures taken till now would go waste,” he warned.
“Thus I would request not to allow textile, readymade, and fancy shops till the Lockdown ends. We will give all the cooperation to ensure the Dakshina Kannada district becomes COVID free. Lockdown should not be eased in the name of Eid,” he added.
