Virology lab to be setup soon in Mangaluru

Mangaluru: The coastal city of Mangaluru is all set to get a virology lab shortly.
During a meeting held in Mangaluru to review the preparedness to combat COVID-19, Minister of Health and Family Welfare B Sriramulu said that the Chief Minister has given his nod for setting up the laboratory at Government Wenlock Hospital.
At present, the throat swab samples are being sent to Viral Research and Diagnostic Lab in Hassan and Udupi sends it to Shivamogga.
There has been a demand to set up a lab in Mangaluru. Once done it would help the coastal districts as they would be able to get the reports quickly.
The Wenlock Hospital caters not only to the people of Dakshina Kannada, but several nearby districts of Karnataka and also Kasargod district of Kerala state.
Sriramulu said that the government intends to set up labs in the Government Medical Colleges in 17 districts.
