Mangaluru Airport gives Young Academic Achievers Hands-on Aviation Sector Experience

Mangaluru, May 26, 2026: Mangaluru International Airport hosted district and state toppers of SSLC and Class 12 from Dakshina Kannada for an experiential airport visit on May 21, offering students a behind-the-scenes look at airport operations and the aviation ecosystem.
The initiative was organised to recognise academic excellence among students and familiarise them with various aspects of airport functioning. It follows a similar visit organised earlier this month for second PUC toppers.

The airport said the programme was also part of celebrations marking 75 years of civil aviation in Mangaluru. The first aircraft carrying then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had landed at the then Bajpe aerodrome on December 25, 1951. A series of programmes are being held through the year to commemorate the platinum jubilee, with the finale scheduled for December 2026.
During the visit, students were taken through key passenger touchpoints and introduced to terminal operations, airline functions, security procedures and airside activities. They were also briefed on the role of the Central Industrial Security Force in ensuring airport safety and security.

The students interacted with teams from Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting and Air Traffic Control and gained an understanding of their role in maintaining safe and efficient airport operations. Airport officials also showcased recently acquired crash fire tenders and a rapid intervention vehicle.
As part of the visit, students witnessed aircraft landings, a helicopter take-off and a touch-and-go operation performed by a military aircraft.

Senior leadership of the airport later interacted with the students and shared insights on developments in the aviation sector, evolving passenger expectations and career opportunities in aviation and allied fields.
Airport authorities said the initiative was aimed at engaging with the community and inspiring students to explore future opportunities in aviation and related sectors.
