Srinivas University Promotes Safe Campus Culture Through Anti-Ragging Lecture

Mangaluru, June 25, 2025: The Institute of Aviation Studies at Srinivas University conducted a thought-provoking guest lecture on “Ragging is a Crime, not a Tradition: Promoting Legal Awareness among Students” on June 25, 2025. The session was led by Dr. Adv. Pavithra Kumari, a noted legal expert, and was attended by students of Second Year BBA (Aviation Management and Aviation & Logistics Management) and Third Year BBA (Aviation Management and Aviation Travel & Tourism Management).
Held under the guidance of the Dean, Head of the Department, guest lecture coordinator, and faculty members, the event aimed to create awareness about the legal, emotional, and social consequences of ragging, while fostering a campus environment of respect, safety, and inclusivity.
Dr. Pavithra Kumari opened the session by addressing the definition, forms, and common myths surrounding ragging, emphasizing that it is not a rite of passage but a punishable offence. She elaborated on the psychological trauma, academic disruption, and social alienation often suffered by victims, and cited real-life cases to underline the gravity of the issue.
Highlighting key legal frameworks like the UGC Regulations 2009 and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, she explained the severe legal actions that can be taken against perpetrators. She also spoke about the violation of fundamental rights such as dignity and equality that ragging entails.
Encouraging students to become active agents in prevention, she urged them to be vigilant, support victims, and report incidents without fear. The session concluded with a call to build a legally aware and ragging-free campus culture.
