Mangaluru: Amara to Host Community Tree-Planting Drive on June 8

Mangalore, June 7, 2025: As part of World Environment Day celebrations, Amara, the city-wide plantation movement, is set to launch a large-scale community Tree Planting Drive on Sunday, June 8, from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM.
Organised in collaboration with the District Administration, Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), the Forest Department, and several civic and educational organisations, the drive aims to transform two key road dividers—Kottara to Annegundi and Kottara to Akashbhavan—into thriving green corridors.
Residents, including students, parents, volunteers, and civic bodies, will gather at the TLC Art Café in Kottara at 7:45 AM for orientation and sapling distribution, before heading to their designated planting sites.

“Every sapling we place in the soil is a promise that Mangalore will stay vibrant, breathable and beautiful for our children,” said an Amara spokesperson. “When families and civic agencies plant side by side, sustainability becomes a shared family value, not just a slogan.”
Participants are encouraged to plant at least one tree per family and adopt additional saplings if they wish. They are also invited to capture a selfie with their planted sapling, which volunteers will use to track adoptions. Planting tools, water, and guidance will be provided at the site. Participants are advised to carry reusable water bottles and wear sun protection.
This initiative forms part of Amara’s broader vision to expand Mangalore’s urban tree cover in support of MCC’s beautification drive and the Forest Department’s urban canopy targets.
“Planting together teaches our children the power of care, commitment and community,” organisers said. “Let’s give them more than memories—let’s give them shade, clean air, and pride in their hometown.”
