92% of Jal Jeevan Mission Completed in Udupi, CEO Urges Swift Completion of Pending Works

Udupi, March 14, 2025: The Jal Jeevan Mission project, aimed at providing tap water to every rural household, has achieved 92% completion in Udupi district. The remaining works must be completed on priority to ensure an uninterrupted drinking water supply, especially during the summer, said Udupi Zilla Panchayat CEO Prateek Bayal.
Chairing a district-level Water Supply and Sanitation Mission Committee meeting at the Zilla Panchayat office in Manipal, he directed officials to expedite the completion of pending works and address any logistical challenges.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, the goal is to provide piped water connections to 2,47,000 rural households in Udupi district, out of which 2,14,000 homes have already been covered. Boyle instructed officials to ensure that the remaining households receive connections without further delay.
The project involves 525 works with a total budget of ₹687.66 crore, out of which 484 works have been completed, and 41 are in progress. So far, ₹501.40 crore has been utilized. Boyle emphasized that there are no land acquisition hurdles in the ongoing projects, and any delays due to technical reasons must be resolved immediately. He warned that contractors failing to complete work within the stipulated timeframe would face penalties.
Despite the completion of some pipeline installations, water shortages persist in certain areas due to a lack of proper water sources. Boyle directed officials to identify nearby water sources and connect them to the pipeline network to ensure a continuous supply. Additionally, he stressed the importance of implementing rainwater harvesting systems while drilling new borewells to maintain sustainable groundwater levels.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Water Supply and Sanitation Department, engineers, and representatives from various departments involved in the Jal Jeevan Mission.
