Karwar, Sept 13, 2024: Member of Parliament Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri has urged all residents of the district to participate in the Swachhata Hi Seva (Cleanliness is Service) fortnightly campaign, which will commence on September 17. This initiative aims to promote cleanliness and hygiene across both rural and urban areas of the district.

Speaking at a meeting held on Friday at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Kageri emphasized that the primary goal of the campaign is to instill a sense of personal responsibility and civic sense regarding cleanliness. He highlighted that the campaign’s focus on cleanliness should not be restricted to the fortnight but should become a daily practice for every citizen.

Kageri stressed the importance of raising awareness among citizens about environmental conservation and pollution control. He called on all residents to adopt cleanliness as a daily habit and to view the campaign as an opportunity to contribute to a cleaner and healthier environment for future generations.

The MP also recommended that the program should not be limited to government-organized events but should involve collaboration with various voluntary organizations. He suggested that activities be carried out in every ward and street for at least two hours on Gandhi Jayanti, covering both urban and rural areas.

In addition, he proposed raising awareness among self-help group members about waste management and conducting health check-up camps with the support of the health department in all village panchayats. He also mentioned the need to inform all sanitation workers about the benefits available from various departments.

DC K. Lakshmi Priya underscored the collective responsibility of ensuring sustainable development and a clean environment for future generations. She instructed officials to organize the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign in a well-structured and effective manner across the district.

The meeting was attended by Legislative Council member Ganapati Ulvekar, District Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Eshwar Kumar Kandoo, Additional Deputy Commissioner Prakash Rajput, Additional Police Superintendent Jaykumar, local government representatives, officials from various self-help organizations, sub-division officers, and various department officials.
