Udupi, Jan 19, 2024: The sacred occasion of Madhva Navami (as per solar calendar) was celebrated in Udupi and various Madhva Mathas across the region on Friday.

The significant events in Udupi were graced by the presence of Paryaya Peetadhipati Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Sriapadaru and his disciple Sushreendra Tirtha Sripadaru. They conducted a special Pooja dedicated to Sri Madhvacharya at Sri Anantheshwara Temple in Udupi, where Sri Madhvacharya is believed to have taught and held discourses, with the belief that his spiritual presence continues to reside there.

On Madhva Jayanthi and Madhva Navami, special prayers are held at the temple, with daily rituals performed by the Paryaya Peetadhipathi. Following the ceremonies, a procession took place where a photo of Sri Madhvacharya was placed on the Chariot, and an Utsava was conducted at Ratha Beedhi.

Meanwhile, at Pajaka, the birth place of Sri Madhvacharya, Madhva Navami unfolded in a week-long celebration under the guidance of Sri Vidyavallabha Tirtha Sripadaru of Kaniyooru Matha. The festivities reached a crescendo with the culmination of the Shakala Rik Samhita Yaga. Here, the idol of Sri Madhvacharya, originally placed by Sri Vadirajaru, became the focal point of devotion.

Sri Vishwavallabha Thirtha Sripadaru of Sri Sode Vaadiraja Matha conducted a special Pooja at Madhyavata and Kattattila Matha.

Madhyavata Matha holds significance as the sacred site where Sri Madhwacharya used to perform his Madhyahna Pooja enroute to Kukke Subramanya. Sri Vishwavallabha Tirtha Sripadaru marked the occasion by performing special Pooja to Sri Vedavyasa (Vyasamusthi), Sri Mukhyaprana, and Sri Bhootharaja.

Kattattila Matha, on the other hand, is the repository where Sri Madhvacharya had placed and preserved his Sarvamoola Grantha. Sri Vishwavallabha Tirtha Sripadaru paid a visit to Kattatila Matha, offering prayers and having darshan of the deity. The Matha boasts a shrine dedicated to Sri Bhootarajaru.
