Udupi, Jan 18, 2024: Deputy Commissioner Dr. K Vidya Kumari announced the initiation of a Constitution Awareness drive, aiming to raise awareness about the Constitution among the public. The drive will take place district-wide from January 26 to February 23.
Dr. Vidya Kumari chaired a preparatory meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office auditorium in Manipal today. The drive seeks to inform citizens about the Constitution’s significance and principles through various activities.
As part of the Constitution Awareness Jatha on Constitution Day, events will unfold in every gram panchayat and urban local body limits across the district. The jatha tableau, to be inaugurated by the district in-charge minister on January 26 at the Republic Day function in The Mahatma Gandhi Stadium, Ajjarkadu, will traverse 155 gram panchayats in two divisions of the district.
At the gram panchayat level, awareness programs will feature lectures by educators, essay competition, painting, and speech competitions for students. Winners will be rewarded through the gram panchayat.
The tableau parade will showcase the Preamble of the Constitution, details of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s concept and statue, Basavanna’s vachanas, local historical figures, literature, art, culture, and government schemes. Pamphlets on constitutional awareness will be distributed during the event.
The DC stressed the need for well-organized jatha programs at the taluk level and appointed gram panchayat development officers as nodal officers. She called upon local body representatives, officials, and the public to actively participate in the gram panchayat jatha program, emphasizing its significance for meaningful and successful execution.
