 St Agnes College Welcomes Cultural Envoys from St Claret College

Mangaluru, Jan 12, 2024: St Agnes College (Autonomous) warmly received members from Saint Claret College, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, as part of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the two institutions.

The Claret College team engaged in a cultural exchange program from January 6 to 11, 2024, and on January 8, 2024, a formal welcome was extended to them during the inaugural program.

The ceremony was inaugurated with the lighting of the lamp by Sr Dr M Venissa A.C., the Principal of St Agnes College, Rev. Fr. Dr. Alwyn Mendoz, the Principal of Saint Claret College, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, and other dignitaries.

The students of St Agnes College showcased their culture through Chende performances, classical dances, and various other cultural dance forms. Distinguished guests included Sr. Clara A C (Vice Principal), Dr Ordetta Mendonza (Faculty & Coordinator, Academic Planning and Development, Saint Claret College Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh), Shubharekha (Dean Administrator), and Dr R Nagesh (Dean of Arts).

The spotlight shifted to the students from Saint Claret College, Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, who took center stage to present their unique culture, traditions, sports, and insights into their distinctive way of life. They conducted sessions on Apatoni, Nyishi, and other tribes of Arunachal Pradesh, presenting videos and exhibitions on biodiversity and endangered languages of the region. An evening cultural show was organized for the students of St Agnes College and the public.

Reflecting on their experience, Chakpu Emi, a student from Ziro, Arunachal Pradesh, expressed, “The first experience of coming to St. Agnes College made me feel wonder about the diversity and culture. The dance performances by the students captivated us, and we learned about the rich tradition, culture, and practices of Tulu Nadu.”

Other students from Arunachal Pradesh shared similar sentiments, highlighting the uniqueness in dressing styles, cuisine, language, and dance forms. They praised the hospitality they received during their 5-day stay in Mangalore and emphasized that despite cultural diversity, there are also similarities that unite everyone as part of one nation. The cultural exchange program involved 30 students and 5 faculty members from Arunachal Pradesh.
