 St. Mary’s College Marks Human Rights Day with Insightful Event

Shirva, Dec 13, 2023: The Human Rights and Legal Awareness Cell, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of St. Mary’s College, Shirva, came together to commemorate Human Rights Day on Dec 12, shedding light on the vital principles that underpin this global observance.

Rashmi Kumari, lecturer from the Department of History, served as the resource person for the event. She provided comprehensive insights into human rights and meticulously acquainted the students with the various constitutional provisions safeguarding these fundamental rights.

Presiding over the program, Dr. Harold Ivan Monis, the Principal of the College, emphasized the importance of students acquiring knowledge about various human rights and urged them to embody these values in their lives, fostering the development of responsible and ethical citizens.

He also expressed his concern about the insufficient vocalization on human rights despite the ongoing legal changes in rights protection.

K. Praveen Kumar, Head of the Department of Computer Science, administered the oath on the occasion, reinforcing the commitment to upholding human rights principles.

The event witnessed the presence of Smt. Poornima, Head of the Department of Economics, along with faculty, non-teaching staff, and enthusiastic students. Harsh V Poojary, Bhushan Kotian, Livya D’Souza, and Srinidhi Naik assisted.

Anjali Rama Naik, the Coordinator of the Human Rights and Legal Awareness Cell, welcomed the gathering, Harshita Poojary delivered the vote of thanks and Sathyashree compered the program.
