MAHE Hosts National Conference on ‘India and International Security, Peace, and Media’
Manipal, Dec 13, 2023: The Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), in collaboration with the Indian Council of World Affairs, organized a two-day national conference on ‘India and International Security, Peace, and Media.’
Held in commemoration of the 125th birth anniversary of Manipal’s founder, Dr. T. M. A Pai, the conference emphasized the imperative for sustained efforts towards global peace and sustainability.
Coordinated by the departments of Geopolitics and International Relations, the Gandhian Centre for Philosophical Arts and Sciences, and the Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC), the conference’s inauguration was presided over by MAHE Vice-Chancellor Lt Gen Dr M D Venkatesh. He envisioned a new world order centered on principles of peace, equity, and sustainability, highlighting the need for reforms in the existing UN system to achieve a better world.
“Dr T M A Pai was a Gandhian. The Kasturba Medical College carries his legacy being named after Gandhiji’s wife. The three departments of MAHE – Geopolitics, Gandhian Centre and MIC – are putting forward the agenda of peaceful world order with responsible media”, he lauded.
P S Raghavan, Chairman of the National Security Advisory Board, emphasized the importance of placing national interests at the core of International Relations. Prof. M D Nalapat, UNESCO Peace Chair, echoed the need for a world order based on Gandhian principles, while Amb. Pankaj Saran, Convenor of NatStrat, stressed the importance of a foreign policy grounded in hard-headed realism.
Distinguished scholars, including ICWA representative Dr Stuti Banerjee, Prof. M D Nalapat, Dr Rajaram Tolpadi, Dr Seshadri Chari, Ms Prabha Rao, Dr Ajey Lele, and others, presented papers and actively participated in the conference. MAHE Pro-Vice Chancellor Dr Madhu Veeraghavan and Registrar Dr Giridhar Kini also shared their insights during the event.
