Manipal: World Heart Day Observed with Free Cardiac Health Screening Camp for government employees
Manipal, September 29, 2023 – In observance of World Heart Day, marked annually on the 29th of September, Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, MAHE Manipal, in collaboration with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Udupi District, and Urban Primary Health Centre Manipal, hosted a free cardiac health screening camp for employees of the DC Office and other government offices in Rajatadri, Manipal.
The theme for World Heart Day 2022 was “Use Heart, Know Heart,” aiming to raise awareness about cardiovascular diseases, which account for nearly half of all non-communicable diseases worldwide.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. K Vidya Kumari, Deputy Commissioner, and District Magistrate of Udupi District, who emphasized the importance of maintaining good health. She encouraged everyone to incorporate regular exercise into their daily routine, adopt a balanced diet, and prioritize awareness of heart-related diseases.
The DC urged all employees to take advantage of the free heart health check-up provided by KMC Hospital Manipal, as lifestyle changes could lead to various health issues.
Mamatha Devi G S, Additional Deputy Commissioner & Additional District Magistrate, stressed the significance of annual health check-ups for everyone. Shrinivas Rao, CP0 of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, and Dr. Nagabhushan Udupa, District Health, and Family Welfare Officer, were also present at the event.
Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital Manipal announced that the heart health check-up program offered free assessments, including blood pressure, diabetes screening, ECG tests, total cholesterol and triglyceride measurements, as well as consultations with cardiologists.
Dr. Ashwini Kumar, Professor and Head of the Community Health Department, delivered the vote of thanks. Dr. Afroz compered the program.
