Mangaluru, Aug 25, 2023: Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), in collaboration with the Dakshina Kannada District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), orchestrated an impactful event named Mangalam 2023.

This annual scheduled mock full-scale simulated aerodrome emergency exercise (FSAEE) took place today, demonstrating the airport’s steadfast commitment to safety and disaster preparedness in the aviation sector.

Aligned with the directives of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Mangalam 2023 featured a meticulously planned, hour-long exercise that culminated at 12.56 pm. Within a predefined scenario, the airport executed a synchronized response, showcasing the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders entrusted with airport operations.

The exercise aimed to fortify the airport’s operational prowess and the effectiveness of the established emergency response plan. By subjecting the processes to rigorous testing, Mangalam 2023 assessed the readiness of stakeholders to address real-time emergencies in adherence to industry standards.

Under the watchful eyes of domain experts hailing from DDMA and the aviation sector, acting as observers, the reactions and responses of stakeholders to the simulated emergency were meticulously recorded. Critical insights garnered during the exercise were later discussed during a debriefing meeting, with a commitment from the airport to address the identified areas for improvement. The observers commended the airport’s initiative in designing diverse emergency scenarios, thereby bolstering stakeholders’ confidence in effectively managing unforeseen circumstances.

MIA strategically scheduled Mangalam 2023 during a period of minimal airport activity to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of passengers. These statutory drills are a testament to the airport’s ongoing dedication to enhance its emergency response capabilities, thereby safeguarding the aviation ecosystem in real-time scenarios.
