Shirva: St Mary’s College celebrates 77th Independence Day
Shirva, Aug 16, 2023: In a resplendent display of patriotism and reverence, St. Mary’s College, Shirva, commemorated the 77th year of India’s independence. The event was steeped in the spirit of homage to the countless sacrifices that paved the way for the freedom cherished today.
Dr. Herald Ivan Monis, the esteemed Principal of the college, unfurled the national flag, embodying the essence of India’s sovereignty. Against this backdrop, he delivered an impassioned Independence Day message, underscoring the profound significance of the occasion. He invoked the memory of the millions of Indians who have valiantly struggled for independence, emphasizing that the liberties enjoyed today are a direct outcome of their unwavering sacrifice and determination.
Dr. Monis ardently urged everyone to honor the memory of the nation’s valiant warriors and freedom fighters, whose relentless efforts paved the way for India’s emancipation. His words resounded with a call to today’s youth, emphasizing the vital role they play in shaping the nation’s destiny. He stressed the importance of acquiring proper guidance and channeling their energies toward the development of the nation across diverse spheres. Dr. Monis passionately urged the youth to become architects of a vibrant, progressive society that contributes to the nation’s advancement.
The ceremonial parade, a powerful symbol of discipline and unity, was led by Cadet Senior Under Officer Shettigar Hemasree Sudarshan and Junior Under Officer Aneesh Bhat, Pooja, along with Company Sergeant Quarter Master Anup Nayak.
The celebrations also saw the active participation of various units, including the Rangers Scout led by Sangeet Poojary, students of NCC (National Cadet Corps), NSS (National Service Scheme), and the Rovers and Rangers units of the college. The teaching and non-teaching staff of the institution, alongside the aforementioned units, came together to commemorate this momentous day.
The proceedings were graced by the presence of Cadets Vishal Terence Vaz and Alistair Sujoy D’Souza, who lent their assistance to ensure the event’s success.
Prakash, the Rovers Scout Leader, welcomed the gathering. Premanath, the NSS Program Officer, delivered the vote of thanks. Lt K Praveen Kumar, the NCC officer guided and compered the program.
