 MAHE and Shantanu Shetty Charitable Trust Join Hands to Launch Endowment Fund for Needy Patients

Manipal, Aug 17, 2023: MAHE Manipal and the Shanthanu Shetty Charitable Trust signed a Memorandum of Understanding, marking a significant step towards providing medical assistance to economically disadvantaged patients.

The collaborative effort aims to establish an endowment fund dedicated to supporting individuals in need of medical treatment but facing financial constraints. The Shanthanu Shetty Charitable Trust has committed to depositing Rs 25 lakhs annually for four consecutive years, which will be matched by MAHE Manipal, effectively creating a lasting endowment fund in the name of Shantanu Shetty.

This fund will be exclusively directed towards aiding financially challenged patients hailing from the villages within the Athradi Grama Panchayath, Udupi taluk, who require medical attention at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.

A special ceremony was held to commemorate this occasion, during which Mr. Somanath Shetty, the Managing Trustee of the Shanthanu Shetty Charitable Trust, handed over the initial installment of funds to Lt. Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, the Vice Chancellor of MAHE Manipal, and Dr. Girdhar Kini, Registrar of MAHE Manipal.

Dr. Ranjan R Pai, Chairman of Manipal Education and Medical Group, and Dr. H S Ballal, Pro Chancellor of MAHE Manipal was present.

Dr. Sharath Kumar Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor of MAHE Manipal, Dr. Padmaraj Hegde, Dean of KMC Manipal, Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, and Sachin Karanth, Deputy Director of PR and Communication along with Trustees of the Shanthanu Shetty Charitable Trust, Jithendra Hegde, Rajaram Hegde, Natraj Hegde, Gopinath Shetty, and Ashwin Kumar Shetty were present.

The formal MoU was officially signed by Dr. Girdhar Kini, Registrar of MAHE Manipal, and Mr. Somanath Shetty from the Shanthanu Shetty Charitable Trust during the event.

During the proceedings, Dr. H S Ballal lauded the initiative for its commendable efforts, expressing appreciation for the shared commitment towards healthcare support. Lt. Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh congratulated the Shanthanu Shetty Charitable Trust on their valuable contribution and emphasized the profound impact this endeavor would have.

Dr. Padmaraj Hegde extended a warm welcome to all attendees, while Dr. Avinash Shetty elaborated on the MoU’s contents and its noble objective. A representative from the Shanthanu Shetty Charitable Trust offered insights into the endowment fund’s framework and its envisaged usage.
