Kasturba Medical College and Hospital Organises Family Program for Children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders

Manipal, May 28, 2026: The Neurodevelopmental Clinic of the Department of Psychiatry at Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal, organised “PRAGATI”, a family programme for children with neurodevelopmental disorders, in Manipal on May 26 and 28.
The programme featured interactive activities for children and parents, along with an awareness session aimed at improving understanding of neurodevelopmental disorders and the importance of early intervention.
Dr Prasad S.S., Associate Dean of KMC Manipal, who was the chief guest, highlighted the significance of early identification and multidisciplinary intervention for children with developmental disorders. He appreciated the department’s efforts in raising awareness and extending support to children and their families.
Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi, Chief Operating Officer of Teaching Hospitals at Manipal Academy of Higher Education, presided over the programme. Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, and Dr Arun G Maiya, Dean of Manipal College of Health Professions, attended as guests of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Arun G Maiya stressed the importance of rehabilitation and family-centred care in improving the quality of life of children with developmental challenges. Dr Avinash Shetty said such awareness programmes help parents better understand the needs of children with neurodevelopmental disorders and encourage timely intervention.
On May 26, fun-based activities were organised for children and parents to promote interaction and bonding. A parental awareness session held on May 28 included talks by experts from psychiatry, paediatrics, clinical psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech and hearing departments.
Dr Savitha Soman, Professor and Head of the Department of Psychiatry, and Dr Amrtavarshini R, Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and in-charge of the Neurodevelopmental Clinic, were present. Dr Amrtavarshini welcomed the gathering, while Dr Mahesh Mohan proposed the vote of thanks.
The Neurodevelopmental Clinic functions every Wednesday from 9 am to 1 pm at the Ground Floor of the Artificial Limb Centre in Manipal.
