Udupi DC Urges Officials for Transparent and Efficient Government Services
Udupi, July 18, 2023: Deputy Commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari has emphasized the need for efficient handling of issues within all government offices in the district.
Speaking at a progress review meeting held at the deputy commissioner’s office auditorium in Rajatadri, she urged officials to prioritize transparent and timely disposal of applications.
She asked the officials and staff to be present in their offices during duty hours and stressed that files should be promptly processed within designated timeframes. She underscored the significance of addressing public concerns promptly and taking necessary actions to facilitate public needs.
The DC emphasized effective utilization of funds allocated by the government for development projects, urging implementing officers to ensure 100% implementation without any funds being returned.
The DC instructed officials to conduct a joint survey with the Revenue and Forest Departments to distinguish exempted lands from deemed forests. These identified lands are to be utilized for public utility government buildings and other developmental purposes.
Acknowledging the recent drinking water issue across the district, the DC expressed satisfaction that the problem has been resolved due to favorable rainfall. To ensure a sustainable water supply, she emphasized the importance of prioritizing rainwater harvesting initiatives.
Given the ongoing agricultural activities and favorable rainfall, officials were urged to ensure the availability of locally needed seeds to farmers. The distribution process should be organized efficiently, avoiding any confusion, and an adequate stock of fertilizers should be maintained, she said.
Measures to combat diseases like rot and yellow leaf spots in arecanut crops, especially in low humidity environments, were highlighted.

Regarding illegal mining, the DC instructed officials from the Mines and Geology Department to take strict action to prevent such activities in the district. Similarly, she stressed the importance of adhering to zoning norms when carrying out construction works and taking appropriate legal action against violations.
The forest department was instructed to identify and remove dangerous trees along roadways. The department was also urged to achieve tree plantation targets for the current year.
In response to power poles falling during inclement weather, the DC emphasized prompt reconstruction and clearing of tree branches obstructing power lines. Mescom officials were specifically instructed to address these issues promptly.
Regarding Anganwadi buildings facing space constraints, the Deputy Commissioner advised officials to reach out to local donors and acquire the necessary land for constructing these buildings.
She urged officials from the Minor Irrigation Department to take necessary action to address the improper maintenance of check dams, ensuring smooth water flow and preventing artificial flooding in low-lying areas.
The DC also stressed the need to combat illegal liquor sales in rural areas, emphasizing that excise revenue can only increase if such activities are curbed.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Prasanna H, Additional Deputy Commissioner Veena B.N, and district-level implementing officers were present.
