Illegal Rainwater Connections Cause Drainage Overload, Mangaluru Municipal Corporation Takes Action
Mangaluru, July 12, 2023: Several multistoried residential buildings within the municipal limits have been found to have illegally connected the rainwater accumulated within their premises to the corporation’s drainage network, bypassing the designated storm water drain.
The unfortunate consequence of this unauthorized practice is the excessive flow of waste into the drainage system, due to which the manholes are found overflowing. This is causing significant inconvenience to the public.
In response to this concerning situation, Mangaluru City Corporation has issued a warning, mandating the removal of all unauthorized rainwater connections to the sewerage and network by July 27.
Failure to comply with this directive will attract fines ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh, as specified under sections 252 and 431(a) of the Karnataka Municipal Act, 1976.
To address instances of unauthorized rainwater connections to the sewerage network, the Mangaluru City Corporation has urged the public to report such violations promptly.
The Commissioner of the Mangaluru City Corporation has asked the people to report such unauthorized connections along with photograph to the dedicated WhatsApp helpline number, 9449007722.
