76% rise in passenger movements at Mangaluru International Airport

Mangaluru, April 13, 2023: Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) has played a significant role in the booming aviation sector in India, with a steady upward trend in passenger and air traffic movements.

During the fiscal year 2022-23, MIA handled 1,794,054 passengers, marking a remarkable 76% growth over the previous fiscal year’s 1,016,559 passengers. Of the 17.94 lakh passengers handled, 12.08 lakh were domestic and 5.86 lakh were international travelers, mainly to the Middle East.

Moreover, the airport’s air traffic movements (ATMs) during FY 2022-23 were 14,475, recording a 42% growth in comparison to the previous fiscal year. The ATMs included 10,060 domestic movements, 4,150 international movements, and 265 general aviation (GA) or chartered flight movements.

Notably, MIA also saw a 7% growth in passenger traffic in March 2023 compared to February, handling 143,788 passengers, including 98,191 domestic travelers. This growth is heartening, considering that March is traditionally a lean month in the aviation sector. The ATMs also increased by 7% in March compared to February.

The airport has been in talks with both market leaders and new entrants in the airline industry to add additional flights on high-demand routes domestically, such as Mumbai and Bengaluru, and internationally on established routes. Additionally, MIA is exploring options for operating non-operated domestic sectors through direct or through flights to offer more travel options to passengers.
