Brahma Rathotsava marks Makara Sankranti at Udupi Sri Krishna Matha
Udupi, Jan 14, 2023: Brahma Rathotsava was held as part of Makara Sankramana (Makara Sankranti) at Udupi Sri Krishna Matha today.
Makara Sankramana is the day when Sun changes his path from Dhanu Rashi to Makara Rashi.

Makara Sankramana is special in Udupi as it is also the day when Sri Madhwacharya installed Sri Krishna at Udupi. As part of this ‘Sapthotsava,’ (Seven-day Utsava) is held at Udupi Sri Krishna Matha every year.
For the first five days, two chariots are taken in the procession. On the sixth day- Makara Sankranthi- the first Brahma Rathotsava of the year is held.
Sri Krishna is seated on the Brahma Ratha, Sri Anantheshwara, Sri Chandramauleeshwara, and Sri Mukhyaprana are seated in the other Chariots. On the day after Makara Sankramana ‘Choornotsava,’ is held during the day.
Hundreds of devotees offered prayers.
Paryaya Peetadhipathi Sri Vidya Sagara Tirtha Sripadaru (Krishnapura Matha), Sri Vidyadheesha Tirtha Sripadaru (Palimaru Matha senior pontiff),Sri Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Sripadaru (Pejawara Matha), Sri Vidyavallabha Tirtha Sripadaru (Kaniyoor Matha), Sri Vishwavallabha Tirtha (Sode Matha), Sri Eeshapriya Tirtha Sripadaru (Adamaru Matha), Sri Vidyarajeshwara Tirtha (Palimaru Matha junior pontiff) and Sri Vedavardhana Tirtha Sripadaru (Shirooru Matha) were present on the occasion.
