Manipal, Oct 07, 2022: Advanced Ophthalmic Microscope- Centurion Vision system with Active sentry Microphaco technology was inaugurated at Department of Ophthalmology, Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal.

It provides enhanced safety and efficiency in micro incision (2.2 to 2.6 mm) cataract surgery.

This is ably assisted by the LuxOR Revalia operating ophthalmic microscope with an increased Red Reflex despite eye movement, crucial during eye surgery.

The advanced microscope also has capabilities for use in Retinal surgeries. The Q-vue system installed, which helps the assistant to observe accurately, all steps of the surgery done by the surgeon, is one of the first in the country. The advanced phacoemulsification facility of Micro incision cataract surgery (MICS) was jointly inaugurated by Dr Sharath K Rao, Dean- KMC, and Dr Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent Kasturba Hospital.

Dr Yogish Subraya Kamath, Professor and Head of Department of Ophthalmology, Dr Sulatha Bhandary and Dr Vijaya Pai, Heads of Units, and other faculty members were present. The internationally reputed Keeler Pulsair Air puff tonometer for Non-Contact eye pressure measurement for Glaucoma screening, was also inaugurated on this occasion.
