Brahmashri Narayana Guru Jayanti celebration held in Mangaluru
Mangaluru, Sept 10, 2022: The state government has planned to celebrate the birth anniversaries of philosophers and great personalities in different districts and not confined to the capital city of Bengaluru. Brahmasree Narayana Guru Jayanti is being celebrated in Mangaluru this year. The Department of Kannada and Culture has decided to celebrate Jayanti in the districts to take them among the people, said Kannada and Culture and Dakshina Kannada district in-charge Minister V Sunil Kumar.
He was speaking after inaugurating the State-level Jayanthi celebrations of Brahmashri Narayana Guru, organized by the Department of Kannada and Culture, Dakshina Kannada District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, and Mangaluru City Corporation at TMA Pai International Convention Hall here on September 10.
“The ideals of Brahmashri Narayana Guru are relevant even today. He preached the message of equality. Guru’s ideal, thought is not limited to one community,” he said.
“The philosophers tried to bring about a change in society. If the lives of all the ideal men had been arranged in textbooks since independence, the new generation of society would have been able to grow out of the experience. But this effort did not happen at all. Attempts were made to conceal the ideals of all great men by restricting them to just one paragraph and half pages. Today our government has put efforts to include the ideals of great personalities in textbooks. The real honor given on the birth anniversary of a great personalities is to inculcate their ideals, without restricting to pujas,” he said.
Social Welfare Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLAs Bharath Shetty, Vedavyas Kamath and others were present.
Prior to the state program, a procession was held from Brahmashri Narayana Guru Circle.
