Piyush Ranjan suggests geo-tagging of water bodies
Mangaluru, June 16, 2022: Jal Shakthi Abhiyan Central Nodal Officer and Defence Ministry Director Piyush Ranjan directed the officials to undertake geo-tagging of all the water bodies and thereby protect them.
He chairing a meeting at Zilla Panchayat Mini Hall on Thursday.
“Under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, all water sources have been identified and their conservation work is being carried out. Rainwater harvesting has played an important role in it. Conservation of water is of utmost importance in the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, which aims to hold water wherever and where the rains fall,” he said, adding that all existing water sources in Dakshina Kannada district should be subjected to geo-tagging.
He directed the setting up of a Jal Shakti Kendra in the district and suggested that a water conservation plan be formulated for the entire district.
Piyush Ranjan asked the officials to either revive the available water bodies within an acre of land under the Amrit Sarovar scheme or take necessary steps to construct new water bodies if possible.
He urged the youth clubs under the Nehru Yuva Kendra to conduct awareness, education, and communication programs on water conservation and distribute photographs and videos of the conservation of water bodies on web portals and social media platform.
Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr. Kumar said that a geo-tagging scheme is being formulated to protect all water bodies in the district. He said 15 water bodies have been revived under the Amrut Sarovar scheme in the district.
Technical Officer, Jal Shakti Abhiyan, and Dr. L. M. Thakur spoke on the occasion.
Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary Anand Kumar, District Conservator of Forests Dinesh, Agriculture Department Joint Director Seetha, horticulture, and officials of various departments were present at the meeting.
