Hebbar Gallery and Art Centre to host Yakshagana performance in Hindi
Manipal, June 13, 2022: As part of the birth anniversary of K K Hebbar, one of the most prominent modernist artists of India, the Hebbar Gallery and Art Centre (HGAC) will host a Yakshagana performance in Hindi on June 15 at 6 pm.
The Yakshagana performance ‘Chakravyooh,’ will be held at Gangubai Hangal Auditorium in Manipal Centre for Humanities.
The performance is directed by Guru Sanjeev Suvarna of the Yakshagana Kendra, Udupi.
This will be the first time a Yakshagana performance is staged in Hindi in Manipal. Though Yakshagana has a long history of nearly four hundred years, it continues to appeal to the community because it combines music, eye-catching costumes, dance, and acting with its signature extempore dialogue in the local language.
The Yakshagana Kendra in Udupi has been a pioneering institution for the training and development of artists and the form itself. To make Yakshagana accessible to wider audiences speaking different languages that might miss out on the richness of the dialogues, they now have prasangas in other Indian languages.
Entry for the performance is free.
