Karwar, April 04, 2022: Activists have strongly opposed the proposed hike in power tariff.
“People are already suffering due to the effects of Covid and lockdown. The fuel price is alarmingly increasing. As a result, people are stunned. Farmers and agricultural laborers are not able to make a living. The cost of transportation of goods has gone up. The current hike in electricity tariff will further affect the people of Uttara Kannada,” Janashakti Vedike president Madhav Nayak said.
“There are many power generating stations- hydro and nuclear- in Uttara Kannada district. The district provides electricity to the state and can be given electricity at concessional rates. Even if electricity is given free of cost, it is not a problem for the government. The power tariff is already high. With the increase now it will once again put the people in distress,” he said.
