Udupi to administer polio drops to 73,995 children
Udupi, Feb 27, 2022: “People should join hands with the government in the fight against Polio by administering the pulse polio drops. All children below 5 years should be given the drops without fail,” Udupi Deputy Commissioner Kurma Rao said.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Pulse Polio Immunization program at Women and Child hospital in Udupi on Sunday.
“India has not recorded Polio cases since 2011. But as there are Polio cases in nearby countries, there are possibilities of it being spread. Therefore all the parents should provide the drops to their children below 5 years,” he said.
Udupi district aims to administer drops to 73,995 children. There are 571 centers in rural areas and 91 in Urban areas. Also, the 6 mobile teams and 36 transit booths will ensure that the kids do not miss the drops. About 2,794 volunteers and 125 supervisors will participate in the Mega drive along with Health.
District RCH Officer Dr. M G Rama, Udupi Taluk Health Officer Dr. Vasudeva Udupa, District Government Workers president Subrahmanya Sherigar, Women and child hospital medical superintendent Dr. Swarnalatha, Rotary president Suresh Shenoy, IK Jayachandra were present.
District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Nagabhushan Udupa welcomed the gathering, District Surgeon Dr. Madhusudhan Nayak delivered the vote of thanks.
Vaccination:
Udupi district recorded 96.06 percent in pulse polio immunization today. Of the 73,995 children, 71,076 were administered polio drops.
While Udupi Taluk recorded 97.52 percent, Karkala saw 96.88 percent. About 93.83 percent of children were given the drop in Kundapura Taluk.
Of the 96.06 percent in the district, rural areas recorded 96.27 percent. Urban areas recorded 95.02 percent.
