Farmer makes use of Solar drier for vegetable cultivation
Mangaluru, Feb 27, 2022: If you think a Solar Dryer is to dry arecanut and similar crops, agriculturist Suresh Balnadu of Puttur has come up with some new use for this.
While growing the crops like arecanut and pepper and protecting them from wild animals and pests is a challenge for agriculturists, more challenging is the way they are dried and protected. Farmers have come up with various methods.
A solar dryer is one of the most popular methods of drying arecanut. Agriculturist Suresh Balnadu of Puttur has come up with some innovative ideas.
He uses this dryer to dry pepper also. But more interestingly he uses this ‘Solar House,’ to grow various types of vegetables like Okra, Tomato, Brinjal, and even Basale soppu (Malabar Spinach)!
This method will protect the crop from animals and also pests.
Instead of going for the traditional model, Suresh Balnadu has come up with his design.
