Minister Chavan directs DCs to form Cow Protection Committees
Udupi, Feb 04, 2022: To control cattle theft, Animal Husbandry minister Prabhu B Chavan has asked the Deputy Commissioners of the three coastal districts to set up a district-level Cow Protection Committee (Gow Rakshana Samithi).
“I have noted the media reports about continuous cattle theft in the Coastal belt. Cow Protection Committee should be formed in every district. It should be headed by the Deputy Commissioners/ Superintendent of Police. The committees should keep an eye on vehicles involved in such incidents. The checkpoints should be strengthened and checking intensified,” the Minister stated in a letter written to the Deputy Commissioners of Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi districts.
The minister has asked the owners who sell the cattle and purchasers to have an undertaking on e-stamp paper with details including time. The photos with the date and time should be produced during checking.
As cattle theft continues even after passing Anti Cow Slaughter Act, the minister has asked the officials to book those involved in such incidents under the Goonda act.
