Mangaluru, Dec 07, 2021: The common-use self-service (CUSS) kiosks at Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) that enable flyers to print their boarding pass and baggage tag is proving to be a big hit. Staff is on hand at the kiosks to help those not technically savvy.
The IT and operations team at MIA have taken the lead in popularizing these kiosks among the flyers. The presence of these kiosks also adds value to passenger safety during a global pandemic by going helping them go contactless.
MIA at present has four such kiosks, all of which print the boarding passes, while three of them are enabled to print both the boarding pass and baggage tag. The airport has definite plans to set up additional CUSS kiosks with the above feature and they will be installed in a phased manner to decongest space opposite the check-in area.
Flyers proceed to use the baggage tag tracking (BTT) enabled machines located at the check-in area of the integrated terminal building of MIA, after the airline security staff screen the registered baggage.

Passengers do not have to wait in line before the check-in counter. With their boarding pass in hand and the baggage tagged, they just need to drop it at the airline counter, where the staff weighs and scans the tag before sending it to the aircraft.
The entire process of printing the boarding pass and baggage tag takes not more 30 seconds, even with a PNR that has a maximum of six passengers on a single ticket. The BTT machines can print up to 150 tags and boarding passes on one roll.
At present, Air India (AI), Air India Express (IX), GoFirst (G8) and IndiGo (6E) have facilitated the use of these kiosks for their respective customers. These machines also help the airline concerned to pare around the same time at their registered baggage handling counters.
While these kiosks have been there before, they have gained wider acceptance among flyers in the Covid era.
Siddharth Pande, a flyer who used this facility at the airport said CUSS kiosks are the way going forward in that they reduce touch points.
