Karwar, Sept 27, 2021: The Karwar Taluk Registered Contractors Association has requested the state government to undertake all the construction works through the tender system only.
The Association office bearers led by Madhav B Nayak met district in-charge Minister A Shivaram Hebbar and MLA Roopali Naik and submitted a memorandum today.
“There are many registered contractors in Karwar-Ankola. Since last two years due to Covid we are suffering without enough job. We are unable to repay the loans,” the contractors said.
“Many works in the constituency are being undertaken through package system which is not correct. We have already opposed this. Contractors and construction workers are suffering due to a lack of works. Government releasing grants for developmental works would be of great help to the families of contractors and the laborers depending on them. But it has been noted that many works are not going through the process of tendering. Instead, the works are given on package system,” they alleged.
“The MLA has directed the officials to give 114 works worth ₹ 16 crores to KRIDL. The has hurt the contractors. Instead, the government should invite tender and undertake the work ensuring transparency,” Association president Madhav Nayak told The Canara Post.
