Kasturba Hospital Blood Bank gets NABH accreditation
Manipal, March 30, 2021: Blood bank of Kasturba Hospital, Manipal has received certification from National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH).
National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare providers (NABH) is a constituent board of Quality Council of India.
Quality and safety of blood being the priority of Kasturba hospital Blood Centre has now received NABH Certificate of Accreditation. This certificate is another feather to the crown of quality.
Dr. H S Ballal, Pro-Chancellor of MAHE, Manipal handed over the certificate of accreditation to Dr. Shamee Shastry, Director of Kasturba Hospital Blood Center, and appreciated the efforts of the entire team.
Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M. D. Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE congratulated the team and emphasized the role of transfusion services in delivering quality healthcare.
“The certificate of accreditation is the reflection of the quality services delivered by the Blood Centre and it is a process of continuous quality improvement,” Dr. PLNG Rao, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Health Sciences) said.
Complementing the team, Dr. Sharath K Rao, Dean of KMC, Manipal, said that Transfusion Medicine is an evolving branch of medicine, and Kasturba Medical College, Manipal also offers a postgraduate training program in this field.
C G Muthana, COO, and Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital stated that amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the staff of the Blood Center has worked relentlessly to meet the new challenges.
“In addition to the basic services of a Blood Centre, it also includes specialized blood products such as leukodepleted, irradiated blood components, apheresis products, granulocytes, Nucleic Acid Testing, and the therapeutic procedures performed by the department of Immunohematology and Blood Transfusion,” Dr. Shamee Shastry, Director, Blood Center at Kasturba Hospital, Manipal said.
Dr. Narayan Sabhahit, Registrar of MAHE, Dr. Suneel C Mundkur, Advisor, Quality implementation, Dr. Ganesh Mohan, Quality Manager of Blood Center, and others were present.
