 50k-plus rural households to get water connections in Uttara Kannada

Uttara Kannada, the coastal district where about 75 percent population is in rural areas, is all set to make the ‘Mane Manege Gange,’ project a success.

The Central Jal Shakti Ministry’s aim is to provide water to every rural household by 2024 under the ‘Har Ghar Nal Se Jal’ project. Karnataka government has also taken up the ‘Mane Mange Gange’ project aiming to provide water to every house by 2023.

Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat CEO Priyanga M said that 50,348 rural households in Uttara Kannada will be provided piped drinking water connections this year.

“Uttara Kannada district has 1,280 villages with 7,418 habitations and 2,67,812 houses. Already 17,108 houses have Household Tap Connections. Under the project, the administrations aim to provide connections to 50,348 houses in 685 habitations this year. An action plan for 292 works worth ₹ 16,371.20 lakh has been prepared,” Priyanga said.

Already estimate has been prepared for 285 works of which 276 works have got administrative and technical approval. The tender is in progress. Fifty-four works have started.

164 crore project:
The estimate of ₹ 163.71 crore has been prepared to provide water to 685 habitations.
