Take people into confidence, end illicit liquor: Dr Harish Kumar

Karwar, Oct 20: Uttara Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr. Harish Kumar has stressed on the need to involve the public to fight the menace of illicit liquor.

Speaking at the district excise standing committee meeting, Dr. Harish Kumar asked the officials to have an action plan to prevent illicit liquor production and supply.

“It is the responsibility of the excise department to create awareness among the people so that they bring it to the notice of the officials about illicit liquor cases. Senior officials including the Excise department Deputy Commissioner should attend the Gram Sabha meetings. They should meet the elderly, members of Women SHGs, youths, and local people and create awareness about the problems of illicit liquor,” he said.

“People should get confidence that officials solve their problem. Fight against illicit liquor should gain the form of a movement,” he added.

SP Shiva Prakash Devaraju asked the excise and forest department to have a joint operation to prevent illicit liquor. He also asked the officials to take the help of the SHGs.

District Excise Deputy Commissioner Shivanagauda and other officials were present at the meeting.
