However, the order does not apply to pre-university, degree, postgraduate, diploma, engineering, and ITI colleges, which will remain open. College principals and administrators have been instructed to implement specific precautionary measures while conducting classes.
Student attendance has been made non-mandatory, and college heads have been advised to ensure the safe movement of students to and from college. Special attention must be given to students who have to travel through waterlogged areas, streams, or hilly terrain; such students should be advised to stay home for their safety.
Further, colleges have been instructed not to use dilapidated or structurally weak buildings for academic activities. Principals are directed to assess the structural condition of college buildings and take necessary precautions to avoid any untoward incidents. To make up for the academic loss caused by the rain holiday, the administration has suggested holding additional classes on Saturday afternoons or Sundays.
Parents, students, and college managements have also been advised to avoid low-lying areas, lakes, riverbanks, and seashores during this period. Attention must be given to the safety of vehicles transporting students. Colleges are also expected to educate students on natural disaster preparedness. In case of any emergencies related to natural calamities, the public is urged to contact the district’s toll-free emergency helpline.
