Udupi Zilla Panchayat Wins Prestigious National Award
Udupi, December 12, 2024: The Udupi Zilla Panchayat has been awarded the prestigious “Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Sustainable Development Award” at the National Panchayat Awards 2024 held on Wednesday at Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi.
The award, presented by President Droupadi Murmu, includes a citation and a cash prize of ₹2 crore.
The Chief Executive Officer of Udupi Zilla Panchayat, Prateek Boyal, accepted the award. Srinivas Rao, the District Panchayat Planning Director, was also present on the occasion.
The award recognizes Udupi’s exceptional initiatives, such as achieving over 90% tax collection, quality implementation of educational programs, formation of committees for school development, effective management of infectious diseases, measures to reduce infant and maternal mortality, addressing malnutrition, facilitating online tax payment, and coaching students for NEET and CET exams.
The Panchayat has also been lauded for its solid waste management practices, setting an example for the country, and agricultural initiatives like cultivating fallow lands through Sanjeevini groups.
