Mangaluru, Oct 10, 2024: The legacy of Dr. K. Shivarama Karanth was celebrated at a special event, “Karanth Nudi Namana 2024,” held at University College in Mangaluru. The program featured a range of activities including a book exhibition, literary review, essay competition, painting, and quiz programs to mark the literary giant’s birthday.

During the event, Prof. Somanna Hongalli, President of the S.V.P. Study Center at Mangalore University, provided a deep analysis of Karanth’s notable works. He highlighted how Karanth’s “Marali Mannige” reflected the philosophical choice of childhood in a selected forest, “Mukajji’s Dream” portrayed the culmination of inner desires, and “Huchhu Manasina Hattu Mukha” depicted the internal conflicts of thoughts.

Prof. Hongalli also underscored Karanth’s achievement in bringing the art of Yakshagana to an international audience and noted that Puttur’s Balavana houses a significant collection of books for children. He further pointed out how Karanth’s righteous anger is evident in his novel “Chomanadudi.”

The event was organized by Dr. K. Shivarama Karanth Study Chair in collaboration with the Kannada Department and the college library. Prof. Ganapati Gowda S.E., Principal of the college, presided over the program, while Prof. Subhashini Srivatsa, Director of Dr. K. Shivarama Karanth Study Chair, presented the event’s objectives.

The program began with a prayer by student Vaishnavi, followed by a welcome address by Anisha. Swapna delivered the vote of thanks, and Pooja Hadapad hosted the event. Faculty members and students attended the event in large numbers.
