Srinivas University Hosts Techno Week 2024, Focuses on Engineers’ Role in Nation Building
Mangaluru, Oct 06, 2024: Srinivas University Institute of Engineering & Technology (SUIET), Mukka, organized Techno Week 2024 in association with the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India), Mangalore Centre, as part of National Engineers Day celebrations.
Dr. Chinnagiri Gowda, a renowned civil engineering expert and retired principal of Bantwal Government Polytechnic College, inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp. Dr. K. Satyanarayana Reddy, Vice Chancellor of Srinivas University, presided over the program, with other dignitaries including Dr. Ramakrishna N. Hegde, Dean of SUIET, Dr. B. M. Praveen Kumar, Director of Research, Prof. Shrinath Rao K, coordinator of the Techno Week program, and Er. U. Nitin, a member of the Association of Consulting Civil Engineers, present on the dais.
In his address, Dr. Hegde highlighted the challenges faced by engineering graduates, stating that only 8% of them engage in innovation, while the remaining 92% are unsure of their career paths after graduation. He emphasized the importance of hard work and discipline, urging students to follow the principles of Sir M. Visvesvaraya and contribute to the country’s development.
Dr. Chinnagiri Gowda delivered a talk on “The Engineer’s Role in Nation Building,” stressing the need for engineers to combine theoretical and practical knowledge. He pointed out the growing demand for civil engineers in the country and the importance of protecting ancient heritage structures. He also underscored the role of engineers in socio-economic development and environmental conservation.
Vice Chancellor Dr. Reddy, in his presidential remarks, urged engineers to approach problem-solving creatively and ensure the stability of their designs, citing the Titanic tragedy as an example of the consequences of design flaws.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by SRISTICA President Varun Madhyastha.
