Mangaluru, March 21, 2023: Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) has shown its commitment to conserving the world’s most precious resource by implementing measures to conserve and recycle water.

With World Water Day approaching on March 22, MIA’s efforts to Accelerate Change in water conservation align perfectly with the event’s theme.

MIA’s annual wastewater recycling is equivalent to 1.6 times the total volume of the Dubai aquarium tank at Dubai Mall. Annual reuse of treated wastewater by MIA has resulted in reduction of freshwater consumption, which can serve 80 households for their annual potable water requirements.

The union ministry of housing and urban affairs recommends 135 liters/capita per day as the benchmark for every individual, and the annual wastewater recycled by MIA is equivalent to six times the size of an Olympic swimming pool, which holds 2.5 million liters of water.

MIA’s conservation measures, such as the installation of aerators in washrooms, optimize water consumption and ensure that the precious resource is used judiciously. As we celebrate World Water Day, it is essential to remember the importance of freshwater conservation and the role that individuals and organizations can play in protecting this vital resource.

World Water Day is an annual international observance day that emphasizes the importance of freshwater conservation. The United Nations designated the first World Water Day in 1993, and countries around the world celebrate the event and work towards saving and protecting water for future generations. MIA’s efforts serve as a testament to its commitment to ensuring that this precious resource is not wasted.
