Udupi DC orders oil and rice mills to resume production immediately
Udupi, March 30: Finding several oil and rice production units closed following Lock Down, Udupi district administration has issued an order asking all the oil mills and rice mills to resume normal operations to ensure that the basic supplies are not affected.
Karkala and Kundapur Taluks in the Udupi district have many large scale rice and oil-producing units but many were shut due to the Lockdown. Meantime the Lockdown had also resulted in panic buying due to which the demand for oil and rice increased.
The district administration which came to know about the dip in production has now issued strict orders after having a meeting on March 29.
“All the oil mills and rice mills should start production and supply immediately. Strict action would be taken against those who fail. Permission has also been granted to purchase raw materials- paddy and coconut,” Udupi district Deputy Commissioner Mr. G Jagadeesh stated in the order dated March 29.
The DC has made use of sanitizers, masks, and gloves mandatory for all the employees at the mill and also asked the employees to ensure social distancing while production at the mills.
APMC Secretaries of Udupi, Kundapur, and Karkala have been directed to supervise and production.
If there is any shortage of raw materials, the respective Tahsildars have been asked to solve the problem.
